Bold frames for item entries
  • Hi Steve,

One thing I noticed recently after using Together since it debuted as KIT is that I tend to get confused which item I'm looking at. As I'm using labels the change from dark to white lettering and the small blue frame isn't good enough anymore. I'd like to have a thicker blue frame around the selected item, maybe even a think marker to the left or right, showing clearly at a glance that this is the selected entry. There'd be space to the left of the icon for example.

    Keep up the good work...

    Take care,
    Jurgen
  • I agree that the way Together highlights labeled items could be improved.

As Jurgen observes the label colour almost hides the blue highlight for a selected list item. Worse still, when the selected list item loses focus, its grey highlight actually disappears behind the label colour. So if you have more than one item labeled in the item list and you then click into the preview pane, it becomes impossible to identify the selected item.

My suggestion for labels would be to colour highlight the text of the item's name only, in exactly the same style as a tag's oval lozenge. This would avoid introducing an extra coloured marker element, and would be consistent with Together's existing UI.

I also think that this would improve Together's overall visual appearance and usability. The existing label highlighting looks a bit garish to me. Colour highlighting should be just enough to clearly spot the labeled items, but not so much as to overpower and distract from reading other items on the screen.

Thanks again to Steve for a great app.

    Best wishes

PS: In Portrait Preview the text colour for 'Additional Items' is inconsistent. For Kind and Label it's a dark grey, just readable against the label highlight colour. But for Rating, Tags and Comments it's a lighter grey that's unreadable against the existing label colour when the list item loses focus. For better typography I think these should all be the darker grey colour.

PPS: Also in Portrait Preview, when icons are increased above about 48px in size the three lines of text info are currently aligned each to the top, middle and bottom of the icon. The last lines of info then visually connect much more strongly with the first lines of the next item, and everything looks very disjointed. Much better would be to align all three lines to the top of the icon. Hyphenation on the first line would also be nice.
  • Great suggestion, Brian! Love it!

    Take care,
